We are ready to fight M7's jungle law tyranny—Nambooze

Mukono municipality MP Betty Bakireke Nambooze has criticized speaker Kadaga and government in general for leading the country under its 1980’s jungle law.

The bed ridden legislature said this from her hospital bed at Bugolobi health centre where she was admitted last week with a condition called lumbar spine compression following concealed torture by state operatives at the parliament lobby and basement on 27th September.

Speaking about anti- age limit MPs facing the disciplinary committee Nambooze said Kadaga like her boss Museveni operates the country under the jungle law.

“By suspending us, she usurped powers of the disciplinary committee, ‘heard’ our case and gave us a punishment, sending us again to disciplinary committee is like working in reverse order”. She said Nambooze

However Nambooze said as it is abnormal to work normally in an abnormal situation, she would have faced the committee but unfortunately she is still down.

She questioned why after suspending opposition politicians Kadaga is acting hurriedly with anything as if she has somewhere she is going—with the country

“Is it a manifestation of an eminent end!?. Kadaga rushing up everything!. Gave us 30 minutes to exit parliament in 2minutes she unleashes goons on us accusing us of failure to comply, she gave Raphael Magyezi 45 days to table the motion intended to castrate the constitution, in 2days she puts him on order paper to table the same, this afternoon she let’s a bill about genetically modified agricultural produce pass without a quorum and thereafter adjourns parliament sine die!. Mama Kadaga why all this at the same time?. Where are you going and please are you going along with our country!?.” She said

In reference to the same, class monitor Kasibante Moses said “But our Right Honorable Speaker, this should not be the moment for you to adjourn ‘your’ parliament sine die, when: Three of your MPs hospitalized, three of your other MPs under grenade attacks, school children are waylaid and beaten up in front of police for seemingly not supporting lifting of age limit, and you think this is the right moment to close parliament!?. When pro-age limit MPs are chased in public….Sincerely speaking this should not have happened under the chair of the mother I knew before!.

Kasibante concluded that:

“……I remain with no option but to reaffirm my earlier commitment to fight to the last in quest for a totally liberated Uganda”

Meanwhile, The Buganda region DP president took a swipe at police which she defined as an illegal force dragging the country under one man’s jungle law.

“In itself, invading parliament was an illegality that should be condemned by first the speaker then all peace loving Ugandan’s”

She said it is unfortunate that police and press are misleading people to believe that the police illegalities are legal and its acting within laws.

“Why should police publicize names of MPs attacked within parliament chambers as if they have any crime or it has any mandate to arrest them?” She asked.

“This is meant to mislead, threaten and promote superiority of the dictator among citizens” she concluded

Nambooze was accused of, inciting violence and beating police at Kireka police facility and she is on police bond though sick. However police did not indicate where and when she incited public or give names of any police officer beaten, MPs and councilors are legally protected and have immunity within the house.

By defending the police action, punishing opposition MPs while ignoring gun wielding Kibuule, speaker Kadaga is solely erasing parliamentarians immunity and by so doing she is aiding dictatorship within the house by imparting fear among members, she clarified

The bitter speaking Nambooze said what happened was just the beginning of the red ribbon revolution. She said it’s going on and promised to rejoin fellow opposition members to reignite it soon as she heals.

“I’m more energized and inspired to fight and rout out the rule of jungle law in my country” She said

In an interview early Thursday Nambooze is quoted saying:

“They broke my back not my heart, they can hurt me physically but never can they hurt me mentally—and I will get up from here”

Police and state slapped a media black-out on Nambooze and other MPs opposed to Museveni’s life presidency project when UCC issued a statement warning media houses from hosting or covering them.
