Kenya IEBC in crisis meeting after Odinga withdrawal

Kenya’s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has held an immediete crisis meeting following the announcement of the withdrawal of National Super Alliance (NASA) candidate Raila Odinga and his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka.

IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati said the body is to announce the way forward following the new development after the meeting.

Earlier today NASA principals, Odinga, Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetang’ula, announced their decision to withdraw from repeat elections.

Opposition has all along maintained that it will not participate in the elections unless the IEBC addressed its concerns.

On Tuesday, IEBC released its response to the demands sought by the Opposition giving the impression it had addressed the demands which NASA called a sham.

NASA said the announcement paves way for the IEBC to organise a repeat election by conducting fresh nominations
