Akena killer Kanyamunyu released on 10m bail



Mathew Kanyamunyu, the prime suspect in the murder of social worker Kenneth Akena, has today been granted a 10m cash bail by High Court Judge Wilson Kwesiga.


Though, State Attorney Immaculate Angutoko, had asked court to decline releasing Kanyamunyu on bail as he had applied for bail under the same circumstances like as the previous applications. It was his 4th attempt on the same.

His relatives, Emmy Karuhanga, Julius Kanyamunyu, Sebunya Merian, Stella Karuhanga and his guardian Gabi Gasatura, stood surety for him.


The Justice ordered Kanyamunyu to deposit his passport with Court, and asked his sureties to remind him to report to court.


Kanyamunyu, his brother Joseph Kanyamunyu and his girlfriend Cynthia Munangwari are accused of shooting Akena on November 12, 2016 at Lugogo by pass.


Akena died a day later at Norvik Hospital along Bombo and since then his alleged shooter has been in prison.
