Why UCC cancelled ABS TV licence

The Uganda Communications Commission [UCC] has suspended the broadcasting licence of ABS TV for breaching of minimum broadcasting standards by broadcasting offensive content.

This was revealed through a letter dated September 5, 2017 that was signed by the executive director Godfrey Mutabaazi ordering it to stop broadcasting on all platforms.

According to the letter, it is stated that the station has offensive programs that are broadcasted and despite the numerous warnings its management has intentionally kept them on.

It adds that within a period of 60 days the management of ABS TV is supposed to send a representative to UCC or the commission will revoke the licence without any further notice.

Recently, the management of ABS TV recruited ladies from Rwanda to anchor at 7 pm, during these sessions these ladies undress and change the clothing’s before the camera.

These two ladies who landed pastor Yiga in trouble are identified as Sylivia Mukabashambo and Apple Nankunda and normally they would read the news in Kinyarwanda and Runyankore.

This is the second time that pastor Yiga and UCC are locking horns, at first it was the popular ‘Kalondozi’ program that was banned for contravening the Anti pornography Act of 2014.

Efforts to reach the management of ABS TV for a comment were futile as Pastor Yiga’s known phone numbers couldn’t be reached.
