Parliament suspended over women murders

The deputy Speaker of parliament Hon. Jacob Oulanyah was forced to suspend the parliamentary sitting over the women murders in the country.

Oulanyah adjourned all the house sittings until government comes up with an official statement regarding these murders and what is being done to save the situation.

Different MPs wanted government officials to explain what exactly is going on but to their surprise the health minister who was supposed to represent the government Chief Whip failed to show up.

On her part, the leader of opposition, Winnie Kiiza blasted the heads of security organs in the country saying that they seem not to be in control yet every day women are being killed.

She was supported by Rubaga North MP Moses Kasibante who attributed the lack of an official statement from government on the disputes between Police boss Kayihura and Security Minister Henry Tumukunde.

However, Tom Butime, Minister for Local Government, who said he was representing Government Chief Whip, Ruth Nankabirwa who is on duty abroad said investigations into the killings are still ongoing.

At this point, controversial Aruu County MP, Odonga Otto took to the floor, seeking for an adjournment of the House until government is ready to which other MPs agreed.

So far, 21 women have been killed in separate attacks in Entebbe and Nansana, with the latest incident reported in Nyanama, Rubaga Division in the last two days.
