Kahinda Otafiire pleads to judicial officers to end their industrial strike

Minister of Justice & Constitutional Affairs Kahinda Otafiire has requested all judicial officers to end their industrial strike as government harmonizes all workers’ salaries.

During a press briefing at the Media Center today, Hon. Otafiire told journalists that a comprehensive pay across government workers will be concluded in October based on equity, sustainability and affordability.

“Cabinet asked public service for a pay structure which is yet to be completed. We therefore ask them to return to work immediately,” he said

Judicial officers announced an industrial strike weeks ago citing poor pay and demanded government to address their issues urgently, a move that paralyzed courts of law nationwide.

Also last week, government workers threatened to protest if government doesn’t raise their salaries within 90 days. The Workers Union members agreed that minimum salary be increased from Uganda shillings UGX187,660 to UGX1,760,000.
