Under the tutelage of interim coach Moses Basena, the Cranes proved the best team throughout the match.

Uganda 3:0 Rwanda

Basena’s strategy to attack from the onset paid off as the Cranes were 2up in 45minutes

In the 17th minute, Rwanda failed to clear a Wadada cross in the area and defender Bizimana Ajihad fouled striker Derrick Nsibambi in the area earning Uganda a penalty which KCCA midfielder Muzamir Mutyaba coolly slotted home for Ugandas first goal

Just 7 minutes after, Milton Kariisa played a 1-2 with Moses Waiswa, Derrick Nsibambi and Muzamir Mutyaba which interchange resulted into a delightful shot that resulted into Ugandas second goal

Basena withdrew Captain Bernard Muwanga who had earlier been yellow carded for Tom Masiko at the start of the second half.

There was a change in approach after the introduction of Tom Masiko and Uganda resorted to a defensive counter attacking game which paid off when Shafiq Kagimu, combined well with Milton Karisa who set up Derrick Nsibambi to slot home into the far corner to ensure Uganda goes into the 2nd leg with a 3-0 advantage.

Rwanda’s German tactician Antoine substituted Abeddy Biramire for Barnabe Mubumbyi and shortly after he introduced Buhire Kevin for Olivier Niyonzima but was out smarted by Basena who in the 60th minute substituted 2 goal hero Muzamir Mutyaba with Paul Mucurezi

With an emphatic win, Uganda will go into the return leg in two weeks looking to only avoid losing by a 3 or more unanswered goals to qualify for the tournament proper to hosted in Kenya early next year.
