NRM legislators in support of amending the age limit have received millions of shillings from the president to mobilize for ammendment of article 102(b).

According to a reliable source it was suggested that they handle it in sub regions starting with Bugishu and all is done in contact with the statehouse strongman David Mafabi.

“Simeo Nsubuga, Evelyn Anite, Obua and others have received huge sums of cash and  according to plan they are concentrating  on Lango sub region and Bugishu and nothing is going to stop these MPs from furthering their interests.” the source confirmed.

It added that there are negotiation about this matter between president Museveni and legislator on how much each MP should pocket and some are suggesting 600 million for each and the said MPs are scheduled to meet the NRM Chairman president Museveni to cement the deal.

Efforts to confirm this from NRM spokesperson were futile as they didn’t pick or return our calls.

Earlier, government Chief whip Ruth Nankabirwa had noted that some of her party members are aiming at soliciting money from the party to push for the ammendment of article 102(b) but warned that there was no money to facilitate them.

Nankabirwa confirmed that there are many interested parties in the lifting of the presidential age limit which has caused excitement between those for and against the suggestion, even within the NRM.

Currently, article 102(b)  limits the legality of a person to be president between 35 years and 75 years of age, this makes it impossible for president Museveni to stand in 2021  because  he will be above 75 years.
