As anti age limit demonstrations take off in different parts of the country, president Museveni and NRM bosses are in the spotlight for using deceitful means to have their way.

This fallows testimonies by participants revealing that they had been asked to converge on different issues but only to find themselves participating in anti age limit demonstration.

Erisa Twinmomujuni, a 70-year-old Local council one official for Keishamunyoro Cell in Kitumba Sub County told URN that they were deceived by the NRM local leaders to converge in Kabale town for a discussion about development issues.

He adds that he and others were dismayed when they were given placards supporting the removal of age limits and were later told to march through Kabale town.

Tumusiime Jonan confirmed that he was given Shs. 5000 and a bottle of soda by the organizers for taking part in the demonstration.

However, the Vice chairperson of the NRM Caucus, Sserwanyi Solomon, MP for Bukhooli Central disputed these reports adding that  these are concerned  Ugandans exercising their right and the party is not part.

“This is blackmail that the opposition is using, but not even a single MP or members of NRM have gotten money to campaign for age limit, these are Ugandans who think president Museveni shouldn’t go, no one is paying them” Serwanyi said.

NRM supporters across the country have staged demonstrations in support of removing the presidential age limit from the constitution in Lango region and Kigezi saying that the limitation is discriminative.

Currently, the eligibility of a person who stands for presidency is between 35 and 75 years, in 2021 president Museveni will be above 75 years  disqualifying him if not amended.
