Inter Religious Council Calls for Thorough Investigations Into Entebbe Murders
Joshua Kitakule, the IRCU Secretary General, says the council is concerned about the murders that are mainly targeting women.
The Inter Religious Council of Uganda-IRCU has called for through investigations into the alleged serial murders in Entebbe. At least 19 women have been killed in Wakiso district in the last two months in a similar manner.
The assailants target women between 20 and 35 years of age. They rape the women and murder them before inserting sticks in their private parts. The latest murder victim is Jalia Nalule, whose body was recovered on Monday in Katabi following her disappearance from her home in Abayita Ababiri.
On Sunday, police also recovered the decomposing body of another woman along the roadside in Katabi. Similar murders have also been reported in Nansana Municipality in Wakiso District.
Joshua Kitakule, the IRCU Secretary General, says the council is concerned about the murders that are mainly targeting women. He says the murders have triggered panic in the public and loss of trust in security agencies that are mandated to protect the lives of Ugandans and their properties.
Kitakule says there is need for police to scrutnise some of the people it collaborates with saying they could be criminals.
While addressing journalists at Oxford Hotel in Mbarara on Tuesday, Kitakule said due to desperation security agencies have started blaming the murder on witch craft and wondered why the ritual murders would be restricted to a particular area.
At least 13 people have been arrested in connection to the murders and face charges of terrorism, murder and aggravated robberies.
