Kenya elections: Outspoken MP Junet arrested over hate speech
Suna East incumbent MP Junet Mohammed has been arrested and taken to Homa Bay county police Station over allegations of ‘hate speech’ and incitement to violence.
Junet announced his arrest on his Twitter portal Friday.
Police sources told the Nation news that the MP would be taken to court today to answer to the charges after recording a statement at the police.
Police hasn’t officially revealed the specifics of what Mr Mohamed uttered.
However, suspicion is on Junet’s statement made Thursday that:
“Yesterday I told Governor Joho that before coming to Homa Bay he ensures he has prepared Makaburini Ground in Mombasa so that we can go there and have Raila sworn in as the president for Mombasa, Nyanza, Western and North Eastern. The rest will remain in Nyeri”.
This is the second time the outspoken ODM MP, who is also the ODM director of elections, has been arrested over hate speech.
In June 2016, he was among 7 ODM and Jubilee lawmakers who spent days behind bars in various police stations in the city over hate speech.They were:
Moses Kuria, Ferdinand Waititu, Florence Mutua, Aisha Jumwa, Timothy Bosire, Johnson Muthama and Kimani Ngunjiri.
