FDC team storms Nalufenya, 56 detained members freed


The 56 suspects who were arrested on Wednesday in Kyadondo East for allegedly holding unlawful assembly have been released on police bond


Earlier today a team of FDC members: Ingrid Turinawe, Kakayi Zeridah, Brian Atuheire Batenda, Wafula Oguttu, Nathan Nandala Mafabi and Hon Apollo Kantinti, stormed  the  deadly Nalufenya torture facility where authorities had blocked them access


The team refused to leave the facility and piled pressure on the authorities demanding to see the prisoners and know why they are detained


Under people pressure, police offered to drive the suspects back to Kasangati police station and be given bond


Drama ensured when the police bus they were loaded into caught fire in Mabira forest. Police improvised its ambulance but the detainees refused it and opted to walk to Kampala.


An hour later another police bus arrived and they were forced to board unfortunately this also broke down at Bulyantente in Lugazi town council.


The determined detains though tired re-embarked on walking from Lugazi to Kampala on foot.


They were later transported to Kasangati police where they all signed bonds to freedom.


Among the detainees were Margaret Wokuri Madanda, Onghwens K. Kisangala, Hon Oboi Amuriat, Robert Mayanja and 50 others.


 


Among those released is Atuhairwe Nicholas who had been held incommunicado for four days.
