Where are opposition stalwarts in Kyadondo elections?

As the final days of Kyadondo by-election draw nearer, members of parliaments from opposition are cheeky about the three opposition leaning contenders; Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine, FDC strongman Apollo Kantinti and Muwada Nkunyingi.

Unlike in previous by-elections where these members of parliament would be seen on the campaign trails canvassing support for the opposition flag bearers and independents of their choice, the trend has not been echoed in Kyadondo.

These divisionism and back-sitting of influential opposition leaders, the NRM party is hopeful of their man Sitenda Ssebalu merging as the victor.

Sources say, the likes of Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi, Moses Kasibante, Medard Sseggona, Erias Lukwago, Allan Ssewanyana and other opposition leaders are finding it hard to choose between Kyagulanyi and Kantinti over fear of what may happen on the voting day.

When the SpearNews contacted Hon. Moses Kasibante for a comment, he said that the battle is between opposition and NRM and they are facing challenges of choice over the three contenders of the opposition.

He promised to call them and decide on the way forward saying,” our goal is to retain the constituency as the opposition. The victory of the opposition is in the hands of the three opposition candidates which calls for an understanding as soon as possible’.

Kasibante added, “it’s not late, the winning formula can even be made on the election eve, just like soccer, the added time can change results, we are not disowning any of the opposition candidates”

On his part, the Busiro East Member of Parliament Hon. Medard Lubega Ssegona was reluctant to give his mind saying he was busy in court. He added,” am Mp Busiro and less concerned about Kyadondo East.”

Mukono municipality MP Betty Nambooze Bakireke explained that she thinks the people of Kyadondo have the capacity to sort this out on their own.

She added, “I have less relevance in Kyadondo East, its unfortunate that we did not agree as opposition to front a single candidate for the seat but it’s my prayer that the opposition candidate of the people’s choice wins”.

In his response, the Kawempe South MP Mubaraka Munyagwa said that it’s the opposition candidates making themselves a disservice resulting from greed, all these are our own so who should we side with and against who?

Munyagwa added that, “Dr. Kizza Besigye highlighted it that all these are our own, it’s the greedy that caused a disservice. Kantinti was the incumbent, Bobi Wine was our sympathizer, Nkuyingi is also FDC.”

Munyagwa explained that in there are two parties in Uganda; the oppressor and the oppressed but look the oppressor is fronting one candidate and the oppressed have three candidates, he warned that they are forgetting the big cause, and this might cost them the victory.

However, sources close to the opposition Mps noted that they are scared on whom to back for the Kyadondo seat since Bobi Wine commands popular support to which they can’t openly annoy and at the same time Dr. Kizza Besigye the main opposition figure is fronting Kantinti on the FDC ticket.
