Police bows to people pressure, releases Bobi-Wine as EC speaks out

Kyadondo East independent candidate Bobi Wine who was earlier today arrested as he was trying to stage his campaign at Kasangati grounds has been released without charges pressed against him.

His arrest caused public outcry and many of his supporters protested his arrest and blocked the road near Kira Police Station where he was detained from.

Contestant Katinti and Kiza Besigye joined a multitude of supporters to demand his release at Kira road police station

After his release he decided to hold his rally at Gayaza.

“One thing you can’t change is change. They arrested me and they have released me. In order not to cause a presidential embarrassment, we have agreed to hold our rally in Gayaza. I don’t want to be a remembered as a violent man. Campaigns have been peaceful. I want my supporters to remain calm,” said Bobi Wine.

Speaking to press after the fracas, EC spokesperson Jotham Taremwa, said Bobi wine was campaigning at the wrong venue.

“According to the harmonized campaign program with EC, Bobi wine was not supposed to be where he was in Kasangati. He is supposed to campaign in Gayaza. Therefore, he was campaigning at a wrong venue,” said Taremwa.

“We have spoken to candidate and he appreciated our advice. He is going to proceed to his campaign venue,” he added.
