South Sudan War: Museveni declares his support for Salva Kiir

Uganda’s President Museveni Openly expressed his support and backing for Embattled South Sudan President Salva Kiir’s effort to solve war in the youngest nation through Dialogue.

The revelation was made Monday In South Sudan’s capital Juba where Museveni went to oversee launch of a National Dialogue and Swearing-in of a steering committee for dialogue between attended by all Waring parties.

However South Sudan President Salva Kiir rejected the return of his former first deputy and rebel leader, Riek Machar to the country to participate in the national dialogue.

After the exercise that took place in Freedom hall Juba, President Museveni expressed his opinion about the same thus:t

Attended the launch of South Sudan National Dialogue and swearing-in of the steering committee today at the Freedom Hall in Juba.

I commend His Excellency Salva Kiir for initiating this dialogue. It is important and it is why I came to lend my hand to this effort.

This is serious political capital which should not be squandered. I support His Excellency Kiir’s political vision.

Don’t forget the private sector in this dialogue. If you don’t have peace in the country, the private sector will run away and the country’s economy will decline.

Your children will lose jobs and you will lose many years of economic development. Uganda suffered this because our leaders didn’t know that wealth comes from the private sector.

Within the party, speak frankly to each other. Reach decisions by voting or consensus. Raise issues by having regular meetings in the party. Insist on having meetings in party organs. Never use force. Violence should be a means of last resort.

Don’t tolerate impunity, especially in the army. The UPDF has built Uganda because we insisted on discipline. We would try and kill soldiers who killed people or raped women to stop impunity.

In Africa we are always asking who should be in power, instead of asking what we should do with power.

I see the people who have been chosen to head this dialogue, I know some of them and I think this will succeed because they are serious people.

I wish you success.
