South Sudan War: Japanese peacekeepers pull out
The last batch of Japanese peacekeepers have left warring South Sudan. Japan’s departure was decided way back in March for a 350 member team that landed in the country in November.
Since end of world war 11, Japanese military involvement in overseas missions is a sensitive issue in the country. The peacekeepers were allowed on terms that the Prime Minister Shinzo Abe resigns if any member of the team dies in South Sudan
Japanese military use of force is limited by the post-World War II constitution and this was her first in which it was allowed to use force if necessary to protect civilians and U.N
Their departure is a big setback for international support to South Sudan’s government.
