Second term opening: Karamoja schools register low turn up


Less than a quarter of children enrolled in Karamoja schools this year turned up  as second term opened on Monday.


Unlike other terms, this term’s opening is accompanied by mass registration of pupils and students across the country by the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA).


Moroto Municipal primary school, which is in the centre of the Municipality, recorded turn up of 208 pupils out of an enrolment of 686 while Kakoliye Moslem primary school had only 26 pupils at school.


Kasimeri primary school,  a popular school in Moroto rural had 348 pupils out of 1377 pupils enrolled while Atedeoi primary school in Rupa sub county also registered an attendance of 26 pupils out of 426 enrolment.


In Kotido district Kanair primary school in Nakapelimoru sub county had 32 pupils out of 744 while Kotido army school recorded 120 out of 1036 pupils.
