1 Candidate quits Kenya's crowded Presidential race

Pete Ondeng a flag bearer for “Restore and Build Kenya (RBK) party in Kenya has dropped out of the race saying “the field is crowded”.

Ondeng  has shelved his ambition and endorsed the candidacy of another independent and former Cabinet minister Joe Nyagah.

He said his decision followed a lengthy discussion with Mr Nyagah where he offered to serve as the independent candidate’s strategy and policy adviser.

“We cannot have 18 candidates even some other aspirants should coalesce around other individuals.” He told Kenyan Newspaper the Nation on Monday

Though he has stepped down, Mr Ondeng said, he was still keen to see Kenya transformed.

“I did not join the race for personal interests… I entered the race because I wanted to see change,” he said.

Mr Nyagah, who was a cooperative development and marketing minister in the 2007 coalition government, will officially announce his bid on Wednesday.

Kenyan elections are set for August and 18 candidates had shown interest in the race 7 representing parties 11 independent.
