Water Crisis Worsens as Dams Dry Up in Teso Region

A water crisis is imminent in the eastern Teso Sub region which is still reeling under  a severe drought, threatening most of the major water sources.

In Amuria District, at least 68 dams have completely dried up according to the district records. Some of these dams have existed for more than three decades.

The District LC5 chairperson Robert Okitoi Erisat, says the dry spell has been so severe that even numerous boreholes have dried up.

He says the district authorities have continued to make appeals to the different responsible ministries but with minimal response.

In Kumi district currently, a jerry can of water is at Shs.1000 up from Shs.200 mainly in the urban centers.
