The Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Emillian Kayima has trashed reports that police officials in Kampala are hiring out police lead cars to civilians at a cost of 150,000 shillings.

This fallows circulating of information that police lead cars that are seen escorting private cars are available for hire, the source of this information accuses some police bosses of minting millions from this practice.

“That is trash, there guidelines on who deserves a lead car not everybody, these are for government dignitaries, High Commissioners, cultural leaders and heads of organization and others are common people like any of us. I don’t know of any Ugandan who has hired a lead car because this is our role and a service that we offer for free,” Kayima said.

He noted that there are scenarios where they assign a lead car to clear way for some people due to heavy traffic jam and the nature of the roads, but still this is done within the law and no cost is demanded.
