MP Munyagwa: if Gen. Muntu losses, FDC benefits more

Mubarak Munyagwa, MP for Kawempe South says that although Dr. Kizza Besigye is opposed to his candidature to succeed Gen.Muntu, he will support him for the presidential elections come 2021.

Munyagwa adds that his political party FDC is destined for greatness if Gen. Muntu is defeat in the coming presidential elections. He revealed this to Spear News during an interview, below are the excerpts.

Spear News: How is the race so far?

Hon. Munyagwa: I am from Mubende, the race is fine, the enthusiasm  and the support is so high and the youth are so excited with my candidature especially in Buganda and Busoga region and we are determined to win.

Spear News:  People and viewing your candidature in this race as a spoiler, what is your take?

Hon. Munyagwa: Spoiling in whose favor, Hon. Amuriat! I don’t think, I wonder if I win this election how Amuriat will benefit. I am not a spoiler or joker as people may think let us wait at least for a month to start jumping to conclusions we still have a long way to go.

Spear News: What is important dislodging president Museveni or building party structures?

Munyagwa: The most important thing is dislodging Museveni but you cannot defeat Museveni minus having party structures, which is why I want to empower the existing party structure by establishing a parallel structure of activism, we need a command base of activists from village to national level, that is the only way we can defeat Mr. Museveni, if elected I will be its commander in chief.

What have you done an MP that makes you proud?

That has nothing to do with party presidency, so if I am also to ask what has Gen. Muntu done to be in this presidential race, is Muntu an MP? Even in his home area he doesn’t have a local councilor yet he has been president, my performance as an MP has nothing to do with this race because these are two different spheres.

What is Dr. Besigye’s opinion about your candidature, did you consult him?

Munyagwa: I personally talk to him, but he has a right to support whoever he wishes but he was not comfortable with my candidature and actually the reason he gave me which I don’t know if it was the right, is that we need to focus on defiance and see how we can dislodge Museveni other than spending time campaigning for party positions. That said I have no problem with it and Besigye is still my good colleague.

Spear News: After this party election, do you think FDC will come out stronger or weaker?

Munyagwa: FDC will come out much stronger especially if Gen. Muntu losses, Muntu has tried at least his leadership can be rated at 45%.

We will emerge a very strong party that will help us take the leadership of this country and  put  an end to president Museveni’ s leadership and liberate Ugandans.  As FDC we need to rebrand now and get a leader who is in touch and that leader is Mubarak Munyagwa.

Spear News: if you happen to win the FDC presidency, will you contest for presidency of Uganda?

Munyagwa: Not at all am still for Dr. Besigye for the top seat, he has tried his best and we are not disappointed. He only lacks support from the party leadership before, during and after elections, he has always used an example of a football team where you have a good number nine but lack a midfielder to supply him with the balls to hit the net.  I can’t contest am only interested in party presidency but for the country am still for Dr. Kizza Besigye.

Spear News: Any word for your supporters

Some people are not taking me serious, we have a problem in Africa people tend to think that leadership is for old ones but in France a 38 year old Macron has taken State power.

There are worries that if am elected president my message will land the party in trouble, but party members need not to worry, I am a law abiding citizen who has never been convicted of a criminal offence.

If elected all the activism will be in the cornerstone of the law, let them support me to for party presidency because I understand the youth and we need to rebrand now. In short FDC needs me.
