The Inspector General of Police Kale Kayihura has tasked police commanders of all units to monitor closely the on-going consultations of the masses by the MPs to make sure that they are in line with the Public Order Management Act and record statements inciting the public to enable prosecution if need be.
In a letter dated 21/07/2017, Kayihura noted that discussions must be limited to the constitutional amendment bill that is before parliament.
This comes at a time when opposition MPs have embarked on a national wide campaign to stop the amendment of article 102 (b) that bars a person above 75 years to run for presidency.
Recently opposition MPs launched a campaing to to sensitize people about the dangers of the land amendment bill indicating that the bill was infringing upon people’s rights to ownership of property.
However some MPs failed to hide their distress about the alleged plan to amend article 102(b) that will allow President Museveni even when he will be above 75 years of age currently the limit to a presidential candidate.
