Kyadondo race: Dejected NRM turns blue as Bobi Wine-Katinti trade accusations
The race for Kyadondo East constituency has reached a critical stage with all camps doing stints to help them win the June 29th scheduled by-election
The NRM candidate who 2 weeks ago begged voters “Please don’t count M7’s evils on me,” has made another stint off his party by abandoning tellow the party color and unleash blue colored posters so as to appeal to the predominantly opposition FDC voters in the area.
On the other hand the two main opposition candidates; independent Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine and FDC’s Apollo Kantinti are trading accusations each accusing the other of malice and sabotage.
Kantinti’s camp alleges that Bobi Wine commanded his rowdy youths to deface his posters and banners. He says he has already opened up a police case.
FDC chief mobilizer Ingrid Turinawe said that this is a sign of panic after Bobi Wine realizing the odds are turning against him. She adds that they are also taking the matter to the Electoral Commission because this is against the law.
Bobi Wine however also claims that his posters and banners have been defaced in the areas of Kasangati and Kiteezi by Kantinti’s supporters. He says its because of this that he chose to not to attend the NTV Forth Estate program on Sunday, Radio One Spectrum on Tuesday and NBS Morning breeze program on Wednesday, arguing that he cannot feature on the same program with people who want to benefit from his popularity.
Denis Tumuhairwe Bobi Wine’s personal assistant told SpearNews that they agreed as a campaign team to stop all live debates with opponents
“We are not going to campaign for any other person; we are on the ground, it’s not a blackout but a decision by the campaigning team after finding out that our opponents were using his fame to support and further their cause,” he said.
The two camps have also been accusing each other of getting financial support from president Museveni through Kampala Central MP, Muhammad Nsereko. However, Atuhairwe trashed the rumors, saying that Bobi Wine has always stood for truth and justice and cannot in anyway associate with Mr. Museveni’s government.
“Bobi Wine has a problem with the governance of Mr. Museveni, everything of ours is in broad day light, let them stop the diversions because we are winning this race.” Tumuhairwe added.
President Yoweri Museveni is expected in the constituency to campaign for his NRM candidate Sitenda Ssebalu, whose candidature has been dwarfed by the two opposition contenders.
